A new Waitrose food store formed the centrepiece of our £35 million regeneration of Haywards Heath’s Station Quarter which was officially open by Sir Nicholas Soames in Spring 2017.

In addition to the new store, the project also delivered:

  • Additional retail and restaurant units
  • A multi-storey station car park providing over 1,000 spaces
  • A radically enhanced public realm around the station
  • Improved pick up and drop off facilities

The new Gateway at Haywards Heath received widespread support from the local community and provides further support to our vision that stations can become exciting new destinations that offer much more to local communities. Angie Doll, Southern's Passenger Services Director commented:
"This project has already brought tremendous benefits for our passengers. The superb new multi-storey car park with direct access to platforms, and better interchange facilities at the front of the station have meant that getting to and from the station is much improved. The new Waitrose superstore will, I'm sure, prove to be a great asset to the station for years to come."
